Hey all, it's a big one.
E1, LT/ST 13-15, Meter Reading Worksheet, and all odd code questions from 44-46. I think Norm wrote 42-44, but we did those already. Happy hunting!

Halfway Point: End of Week 12
Oh, the memories! From Ostyn's 'Ahh Shit!' to that chicken with pink gumboots, we've been through 12 weeks of this course already. Does anyone even remember the first week? It's been 3 months since we started!
Everyone should be proud of themselves. I had no idea going into this that it would be as demanding as it is, and sticking with it shows perseverance and determination.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow, and for everyone's effort, here is a chicken wearing pink gumboots.

Homework: Bonus 'Helllllllll yeah!' Edition
We all know we have those magnetism worksheets and that code stuff to do tonight. Pages 72-75 and page 25, but did you know...
That there will be no safety on the midterm.
No Safety.
No Safety.
No Safety.
NO SAFETY!
Ran into Norm after study group and he slipped me the info. Thought I'd pass that along to the 5 of you that actually read this blog.
Also, I may have been wrong about the voltage drops in the 3-wire diagrams with a break on a live line. We'll ask Norm.
Cheers!!

MIDTERM NEEDS
Post it here, anything and everything YOU yourself needs help on. Once we find out the problem areas and the things people need help on, we can find the best way to study them for everyone's benefit.
A couple of things though:
1) Please be specific. Don't say, "Everything LOLZ!!1!" and expect people to help. It helps if everyone knows exactly what we need. The more specifics we have, the better we can organize our time. List anything, but please be specific.
2) We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. This isn't just about eating the right words and numbers and shitting out the right answers, it's a team-building exercise too. We can all help each other.
3) The only stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked. Please don't be embarrassed that you don't remember how to convert CMA to SMA and what not, because you're too proud. Refer to #2. We're all in this together.
I'm going to start and say that I'm not too good with reading the word questions properly. So I'd like to do some word questions during our study block.
See? Not that difficult. Now you try!!

That wasn't so bad...
That test wasn't too terrible! It's the MIDTERM that's going to kill all of us.
Just wanted to say that everyone is doing an awesome job in the shop. Lots of good safety techniques and excellent awareness, PLUS everyone is working really hard and getting things done right. Norm said it was a 'treat' teaching our class, and me, being modest, would have to agree.
Next week's midterm is not going to be like a unicorn ride into space with Mr. T and an unlimited supply of the world's best tasting beer. It is not going to be like rolling around on a bed naked with millions of dollars while you watch the world's finest mariachi band fight Kiss on a TV made of diamonds and AK-47s.
If Norm has taught us one thing, it's that he loves to play with the english language in our tests and make us hate ourselves for mis-reading the questions. He also enjoys long walks on the beach, and bathing in the salty tears of his students and cackling maniacally when they realize they in fact read 'underground' instead of 'ungrounded.'
But I digress...
We've done all this before! We know how to study, we know how to kick ass and we know how to take names! What's stopping you from passing this test? It's just all those crappy little beige booklets, a bit of AELC, some of the CEC, D1, D2, B1, B2, B3... I could go on and it could get painful, but I've set myself up a sexy little strategy that should work. I'm gonna break it down into once-a-night manageable study blocks, worked around my work schedule. I suggest everyone tries the same thing, because this is a good chunk of our mark.

November 5, Homework
Not much today, just finish that 3 wire diagram worksheet Norm handed out; show it as a schematic diagram with current values and direction of flow.
Also, we have to start on the CEC Section 6 worksheets in our AELC book, but it's not due until Thursday, which gives us ample time to drink beer and study for impending failure! (Kidding..)
Well, now that you know my plans for the evening, go forth and make Norm proud!

Homework: End of Week 9!
Hey everyone! Almost halfway there! OHHH OH! LIVING ON A PRAYER!!
But I digress...
Congratulations to everyone for sticking it out and making it this far! It can be difficult at times and I hope everyone knows that it's going to be worth it in the end!!
Norm wanted us to complete D2 LT/ST 14, and if you haven't finished yet, the AELC 53-60.
Also, we have that problem in the shop with the two 3-way switches! Hope everyone draws some wiring diagrams!
Have a good weekend!

Homework: Hallowe'en Edition
Well, I hope no one got too scared from their exam marks, because things are going to get scary hard in no time flat.
3 wire circuits and dividing voltage among loads is tricky, but we'll all get there. We're doing really well, and I hope we can continue to do so! Unfortunately, I can't find any good tutorials online to help show everyone what's going on, so please please PLEASE listen intently to Norm in class.
The homework tonight was pretty simple. AELC pages 53-60, and reading LT 14 in D2.
Without further adieu...

There are at least 13 people not following this crap! (Says the hypocrite)...
Anyhow, people, things are getting really fast and furious like a tokyo drift. We've got that code homework that has been sitting on the back burner for a bit, but more importantly we have some other items to address.
First, we're kinda jumping fast into these branch circuits and 3-wire systems. Don't worry though; Norm is very good at leading us to the point he wants to get to. We'll all get there, we just have to hang on and help each other as much as we can!!
Second, we have that nasty combination circuit exam tomorrow. I was cringing about it all day, but I found something extremely useful to me and I thought I'd share it with all of you:
Combination Circuits Explained; Most Excellent!
They do a fantastic job of explaining how to re-draw a combination circuit, and I can guarantee this will help you on the exam tomorrow.
Now, for the homework. Norm wanted us to complete LT/ST 10-13 in D2 and 53-57 in AELC.
We'll get through this come hell or high water!
I leave you with a famous quote,
"Take chances! Make mistakes! GET MESSY!"

First thing is first, brew your pot of coffee. It's gonna be a long night.
Er'rybody, it looks like our sub laid down the law on us with some serious homework. Hope everyone enjoys not getting any sleep tonight, because you're going to have nightmares about the 18 schematic drawings we have to do (as well as the code!)
It has been decreed as follows:
D2 - LT/ST 4,5 and 6.
AELC booklet, Section 2, Canadian Electrical Code, Pgs. 7-9
AELC booklet, Lab #8, Schematic Drawings of the 10 different placements of the Ammeter in series along the parallel circuit.

Test Oct 3! And 4!
That's right. Back-to-back for the first time, and probably not the last, we will have a section D1 test on October 3 (that's tomorrow for all you fellow beer lovers). It's e'rry thang from ST 1-10, which encompasses a lot of things, so be sure to bring your multi-tool back to class so we can all beat Norm with it once we're completed our test :).
Kidding. Maybe. (Let's see how hard this test REALLY is)
And then on Thursday it's everyone's favourite subject: Safety. That's right. We're all going to have to prove to Norm that none of those videos were factual evidence and first hand accounts of workplace safety violations.
Speaking of which...
This is what we've worked for people!!
Kick ass and take names e'rrybody!

Week 4: Homework
Hey guys and gals, just in case you forgot, we need to have section B4 completed for class on Monday; which is already October. Crazy how fast it goes.
Oh, and study for our Monday quiz. It's all that fun math stuff that we overstudied for in preparation of our last quiz. Ohm's Law, Watt's Law, $kWh and more!
Since I don't have anything particularly witty to say today, without further adieu, here is a bunny with a waffle on its head:

BC Hydro Electrical Apprenticeship
Hey everyone, this is for real. Great wages and government benefits. Like I said in class, I have a friend who works for BC Hydro and he says it's absolutely amazing.
BC Hydro Apprenticeship Application
Only catch is that they want Grade 12 Math, Physics and English. If you qualify for it, it's a great opportunity.

Weekend 3: Homework
Don't drink too much this weekend. Norm decided to give us the gift of knowledge to abate our tendency towards delicious libations and poor moral judgment. Sly devil... I say knowledge is fuel for the brain but alcohol is fuel for a non-stop party machine.
From the heavy white one:
(D-1) Learning Tasks 3-4 and Self-Tests 3-4.
(B-3) Learning Task 1 and Self Test 1.

Homework: Sept. 19
So after all those mathletic competitions which we paid so much money for, we FINALLY made it to one of the books we paid even MORE for (but this one looks totally legit...)
Homework was just the Learning tasks 1 and 2, and the Self-tests associated with them. That's all tonight.
Hope everyone got their multi-tools nice and shiny, even though I don't think KPU is gonna pay for our shoulder rehab after we finish.
Peace!

Reminder!
Hey everyone! This is a reminder that we need to bring our Electrical Binder #1 to class on Wednesday. Looks like we might actually start learning about electricity now!
Also, I hope everyone nailed the test. It wasn't that bad at all, except I couldn't remember what Norm's 10% fee was for.
People should comment their answers. Best one should win a prize:
Mine: Beer and whiskey.

Homework: End of week 2. Sept. 13-15
Norm asked us to finish our competency workbooks and the extra math worksheets for homework. C-3 through C-5. We also have an exam on ALL of the content (A-1 through C-5) on Tuesday at some point. Monday we will be in the Millwright shop working on our multi-tool, so remember to bring your work boots, your goggles, and some clothing you don't mind getting a bit dirty.
Also, we still need to figure out why U.S. gallons are smaller than imperial gallons. Norm mentioned his reason, and he asked us to tell him if it was a pile of BS or not.

Homework: Sept. 12
Hey all, this is a pretty heavy load of work. Competencies C-2 and C-5, Crossword Puzzle (with Norm's exceptional spelling skills). This is also a reminder that tomorrow at 10:30 we have our WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Material Information Sheet). This stuff is pretty straightforward and if you were in high school in BC, you probably did this test in either grade 8 or 9, and if not, don't fear. The internet is full of useful information!
We were also asked the question 'Why are US Gallons smaller than Imperial Gallons?' The task is to use the internet and find the answer using a reliable source. (Remember that .com's and .org's. are a little different).
Finally, next week we will have our first exam either on Monday or Tuesday. The exam will be based on all of the competencies (A1-A3, B1-B8, and C1-C5). Make flash cards, study your SQ3R's, and try not to fry your brains with all this math that we've had to endure over the past 2 weeks!
